Szegénység, jólét és ökológia Európában – Konferencia
Az európai kormányzatok és társadalmak legnagyobb kihívásai között szerepel a szegénység állandósult jelenléte, a növekvő szakadék a szegények és gazdagok között, a folyamatos környezetkárosítás és az erősödő klímaváltozás. Ezek a kihívások nem elszigetelten jelentkeznek, hanem kölcsönösen hatnak egymásra.

Az Európai Egyházak Konferenciája Egyház és Társadalom Bizottsága (CSC/CEC) és az Egyházak Világtanácsa (WCC) a magyarországi tagegyházakkal együttműködve konferenciát szervez Budapesten Szegénység, jólét és ökológia Európában címmel november 8-12 között. A konzultáció az európai egyházak közös hozzájárulása a számos szinten megfogalmazódó témák szélesebb nemzetközi eszmecseréjéhez.
A köztartozásokat növelő és a klímaváltozás elleni hatékony globális kötelezettségvállalást megnehezítő pénzügyi és gazdasági válság hatása azt bizonyítja a számunkra, hogy elengedhetetlen a felmerülő témák széleskörű nyilvános vitája, amely az egyházak hozzájárulását is magába fogalja.
A konzultáció lehetőséget biztosít arra, hogy tisztázzuk a jólét megteremtése, a szegénység növekedése és a környezettudatosság között meglévő kapcsolatot és kölcsönhatást, és megvitassuk a hatékony válaszadás módjait. A válság etikai dimenziója és az egyházak elkötelezettsége az etikai kérdések megvitatására, valamint az egyházak és a politikai intézmények közötti párbeszéd, az egyházak és a civil társadalom közötti együttműködés és a különböző egyházak tevékenységének koordinációja szintén lényeges része a konferencia napirendjének.
A konferenciát az európai és a latin-amerikai egyházak közötti közvetlen párbeszéd előzi meg, mely a globalizáció hatásaira és a két kontinens egyházainak társadalmi aktivitása során született tapasztalatok megvitatatására összpontosít.
A konzultáción az Európai Egyházak Konferenciájának tagegyházai és partnerszervezetei vesznek részt a világ minden tájáról. A konferencián jelen lesz Emmanuel metropolita, az EEK elnöke, Julio Murray püspök, a Latin-Amerikai Egyházak Tanácsának elnöke, Lena Sommerstad, Svédország környezetvédelmi minisztere, Szűcs Tamás, az Európai Bizottság Magyarországi Képviseletének vezetője és még sokan mások. A találkozó alkalmat ad a kormányzati képviselők, teológusok, egyházi vezetők és a világ minden részéből érkező egyházi küldöttek közötti párbeszédre.

Az Európai Egyházak Konferenciája Európa valamennyi országában élő 120 ortodox, protestáns, anglikán és ókatolikus egyház és negyven társult szervezet közössége. A szervezetet 1959-ben alapították. Irodái Genfben, Brüsszelben és Strasbourgban találhatók.
Az Európai Egyházak Konferenciája Egyház és Társadalom Bizottsága az EEK tagegyházai, társult szervezetei és az Európai Unió intézményei, az Európa Tanács, az EBESZ, NATO és ENSZ szervezetek közötti kapcsolatot biztosítja. Feladatának tekinti, hogy segítse az egyházakat abban, hogy az egyház és társadalom kérdéseit teológiai és szociáletikai nézőpontból vizsgálják, különös tekintettel azok európai vonatkozásaira, és az európai politikai intézményekkel való kapcsolatban képviselje a tagegyházak közös érdekeit.
